Organization Values Assessment Instrument

John has helped dozens of organizations identify their top organizational and team values. He does this in a creative and fun way, and in a manner that creates consensus and develops clear behaviors associated with each value. Identifying core values is critical element for strategic planning and for developing high-performing organizations and teams. Clarifying organizational values can clarify the direction the organization is going, create norms to help shape organizational culture, and serve as a tool for leadership and team development in organizations.

John's Values Clarification Workshops ask participants to select their top values from a list of 42 values. Through an iterative and interactive process, participants develop consensus on the top 3 to 7 values in their organization (some definitions).

  • Values are things, ideas, beliefs, and acts that are regarded as right or wrong, desirable or undesirable, beautiful or ugly, contributing to or detrimental to human welfare, etc.
  • Values are the underlying set of principles/core beliefs about how we should behave.
  • The pattern of values in an organization represents the core of its operating philosophy and its org. culture. Thus they are a major determinant of behavior of management and employees.
  • Values tend to exist in a hierarchy in our thought processes, some given higher importance or priority than others.
