Personal Profile System (DiSC)

The Personal Profile System (DiSC) is one of the best and most comprehensive instruments for helping people understand themselves and others. It provides a framework for looking at human behavior in general, and the participant in particular. The instrument helps you understand your most preferred, and least preferred, behavioral pattern - distinct ways of thinking, feeling, and acting.

The instrument is both descriptive and prescriptive. Sixteen classic profiles have been identified. The DiSC provides a detailed description or profile of your pattern of behaviors. The profile includes descriptions of the value that you bring to the organization, your typical responses to pressure, and ways to increase your effectiveness, which become the foundation for developing personal development plans. The four dimensions of behavior that are explored include the following:

Dominance
Emphasis is on shaping the environment by overcoming opposition to accomplish results. D's, good at directing and deciding, may become autocratic.
Influence
Emphasis is on shaping the environment by influencing or persuading others. I's, good at promoting and persuading, may oversell and manipulate.
Conscientiousness
Emphasis is on working conscientiously within existing circumstances to ensure quality and accuracy. C's, good at analyzing and checking, may become perfectionist and indecisive.
Steadiness
Emphasis is on cooperating with others to carry out a task. S's, steady and agreeable, may give in despite their needs.
