John Gavares, president of The Gavares Group, is in the business of helping people and organizations manage change. John brings to his clients over eighteen years of experience as an organization development consultant helping organizations at the individual, team, and organization-wide levels.
John also works for THE CENTRE for Organization Effectiveness on a half-time basis. THE CENTRE was created to raise the caliber of leadership in public sector organizations in California by offering organization development interventions, management development programs, facilitation, diversity education, and project management academies to public and private organizations. John is proud to be a member of the The CENTRE staff, who are recognized leaders in management and organization development. We have received local and national awards from the San Diego Business Journal, California League of Cities, and the National Center for Public Productivity at Rutgers University for their work in service enhancement, diversity change efforts, organization development consulting, and leadership development.
Some of his areas of expertise include leadership development, one-on-one coaching, assistance with strategic culture change efforts, strategic planning, team building, climate and morale improvement efforts, training and development, employee involvement and empowerment programs, conflict mediation, and partnering workshops on large capital projects.

John delivers training on a variety of topics, including managing change, empowerment, leadership skills, high-performing teams, communication skills, conflict management, and diversity issues in the workplace.
Prior to establishing his own firm, John served for ten years as a senior practitioner and manager with the nationally-respected Organization Effectiveness Program for the City of San Diego. John also worked for two and a half years with Systemics, a leading organization development consulting firm in the San Diego region.
John teaches Organization Dynamics at the University of California, San Diego. He received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from San Diego State University, specializing in Organization and Community Development. John is currently President of the San Diego Organization Development Network.
When John's not consulting to organizations, John is a busy father of two young girls. When he does get a spare moment, he's often writing new songs and performing his latest songs at local coffeehouses.
